Was the Northern Tool and Equipment sponsor for Kvapil just for one race or is it permanent? Travis Kvapil is one of the better drivers in NASCAR and Todd Parrott has won a championship as a crew chief, so it has puzzled me why a guy with more Top 10's than half of the field doesn't have a sponsor. I noticed Northern Tool and Equipment sponsored him for Talladega, but I didn't hear whether it was for just one race or the rest of the season. This guy is too good not to have someone sponsor him when lesser drivers have big sponsors.
has anybody bought northern tool & equipment brand before? I really want a buy a pipe threader up to 4", but ridgid tools are so expensive, and I found northern tool & equipmenthey are cheaper, but please let me know if their tools are good quality, and if it's worth it buy them, thank you very much!

Northern Tool + Equiptment help? Okay, so I'm trying to make an account at Northern Tool + Equipment. I enter all of my information and press submit, and it comes up with a Generic System Error. I tried several more times, each time with the same outcome. I was wondering if it's just a problem with the site, or am I doing something wrong?
Who manufactures Northern Industrial Tools nail guns? Does one of the large manufacturers like porter cable make nail guns for Northern Industrial Tool? If not them who does make them? I am curious if they have good framing nailers because the price is certainly better then most companies.
What tools do I need to change my own vehcile tires at home? I'm almost refusing to wait in another long tire line. I only have 1 car and nobody to commute to pick up / drop me off. I want to do it at home. I've seen manual tools sold at Northern Tool that are not those HUGE pro tire changing rigs. Do they work? Thanks
what kind of welding regulator do I need? I have recently purchased a craftman 140 welder (20569) but it does not come with a regulator. I am new to welding so I have no idea what I need. I looked at three different ones at Northern Tool today but don't know the difference...One was an oxygen regulator one was an acetylene regulator, and the other just said welding regulator. Which one do I need and what is a good brand to get?
How deep will a hand pump pump well water? I have a an unused well and would like to put in a hand pump. Just one of those cheap ones from Northern tool. I tried to measure the water depth and came up with about 30' to the water line. It is a 30 inch diameter well.I don't know the total depth. I just want to be able to get water when the power goes out (again).
I want to bulid a power washer to clean my equipment? I would like to bulid a power washer for my equipment.I was thinking of buying a Honda motor and a pump and all the fittings and lines from northern tool and equipment. And I would weld my own fram from steel sence I can.

Tool Help? My dad is a good mechanic and he said I should start looking for a good set of tools to start out with. I dont have much money but want a complete set. (More than just wrenches and sockets.) I mean that has vise grips, hammer, and pliers sets too. I found this while flipping through Northern Tool: http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/s... It seems to have basically everything i need for basic repairs. I might buy a set of Craftsman Ratcheting Wrenches to replace the normal ones in the kit though. (My Dad got a set and they are AWESOME!!) It also has a "limited lifetime warranty". I think I am going to buy it, but want the opinion of some proffesionals. The reviews are all good. My Dad said that I should try building a kit, from Craftsman or mac, instead of buying this one. He thinks it is low quality. But i dont have enough money to build a set i need from Craftsman or mac! Is there a kit like what I need that is a different brand? Recomend a kit to me!
Where can I find a screwdriver bit set that comes in a case? I bought a Makita drill and impact driver and it came with no screwdriver bits. What I want is a decent set that has screwdriver bits and hex driver bits. What does a professional use? I'd like it to come in a case. I've already looked on Amazon, Northern Tools and Home Depot and didn't find anything worthwhile.

Isn't racism a nice tool to distract poor and middle class whites from the fact that they are tools? It was a good plan. Make them think that they are being held back by minorities, when in reality they are getting screwed by the government, big business and the church. If there wasnt any others in America but whites I believe that we would have a Northern Ireland situation all over this place. Southern Baptist blowing up Catholics in Mississippi. Maybe it is a good thing that whites think that minorities are the problem...it keeps all my Catholic friends safe.
What Air Ratchet to buy? I already have one, but it came from a air tool kit I bought at walmart. It is not as powerful as I would like and when I try to use the ratcheting function, it some times pushes the motor backwards. I have Home Depot, Lowes, Sears, and (a physical location of) Northern Tools, to shop at. I am working on cars more and more and I need something to get in those tight places, and get the job done quickly. The more versatile it is, the more I can save more time and work. Looking for a 3/8 drive. I think I am going with #IR109XP
What is the best way to meet gay guys in Northern California? I'm a young gay man, and I just moved from Colorado to Northern California. In Colorado, the best tool to meet gay men for me was through a website called connexion.org. However, hardly anyone uses that website in NorCal. I'm wondering if anyone knows the best way to meet gay men in Northern California - from San Francisco and up. (By meeting, I don't mean a cheap hookup - I mean actually meeting to become at least friends first.) ...and I don't want to resort to Craigslist, that's just a little bit below me. Thank you! Note: I'm JUST under 21, so it's not exactly easy for me to go into any gay bars and such...
Was Rome merely a tool of God? Everyone knows that you have to get your message out....how was God going to get His message (Gospel) out to the world? Well I think He started 753 years before the birth of our Lord. That was when Rome was founded. It took 690 years for the Romans to conquer Palestine in 63 BC. In this time rome: * Built roads to most of europe, some of Asia and Northern Africa * made citizens of the local people (Key for Paul, being a roman citizen it allowed him to take the message to Rome itself) * A universal language so a message sent in egypt would be understood by those in Gaul With all of these things in place.....Jesus was born, lived, died and resurrected. And His disciples went through the empire preaching the gospel (Paul first then his students and so on) So that by 313 AD The Christian religion was adopted as the Roman religion From here we know that it went to the Holy Roman Empire and finally the Roman Catholic Church. Now we know that none of these institutions have had a spotless reputation. Downright nasty at times, and yet God used this one organ to disperse his Gospel to the world. Was the Roman Empire, truly the largest, strongest and most long lasting political entity in world history, merely a tool for God to perform His will?
Can someone tell me what this tool set is? (it has something to do with bending conduit)? I have this tool set that i'm selling. Can someone tell me exactly what it is, and how much i should ask for it? it has a "Northern Industrial" sticker on it, and doesn't look like it's even been used. I have an idea of what it is, but have no idea on how to go about finding any information and resale prices for this. thanks! http://tinypic.com/r/30c9n2a/4 the long piece at the top is one tube slipped inside another... don't think it's a swedging tool =/
Is Security Tool safe? I just paid 100 dollars for software and all by sudden my computer got clean, I have northern too but I couldn't do anything on my computer Until I paid then everything got clean, is security too safe and real? what is different between Norton and security too>?
How do I become HRIS Certified? I live in Northern Florida and I was wondering how I can obtain a HRIS Certificate. I want it to be accredited and be legit. I think it would be a very good tool for me to have. By accredited and legit, I mean from a good college and not a online school.
Question about mechanic hand tools. sockets and ratchet wrench questions.? Im a weekend mechanic, I had 90% of my tools stolen a few weeks ago and Im working on replacing them. When looking around for a good socket sets or sockets in general I thought of something that may turn out better for me since im on a budget. So here is my questions: Why buy 12-point sockets, when you could have all 6-point? Is their a reason to use 12-point sockets vs 6-point sockets? I understand how a 12-point wrench could be better then a 6-point when working in tight spots, But for sockets I don't see a good reason the use 12 point sockets. Am I missing something about 12-point sockets? Question two: Can impact sockets also be used with a ratchet as well? This question goes with the first question. Since Ive got to buy new sockets anyway, Im thinking I will just buy one very good set of 3/8" & 1/2" impact sockets and use them with hand ratchets when needed. instead of buying a set of impact and normal sockets. But since ive never realy used impact sockets with a ratchet I dont know if their are any downsides or not. I guess what I realy want to know is, Will an impact socket porform just as good as a normal reguler socket? Question three: Anyone have any input on northern tool's brand "Titan"? I had a nice set of blue-point ratchet wrench sets that where stolen that took me 3 years to get. A few years ago I got a small set of the Gearwrench's for christmas, Not needing them, I only used them when I had a hard bolt to break loose and did not want to damage my blue-point wrenchs (I know blue-point is lifetime also, But the truck is so hard to track down) And to my surprise they held up very well. I never had one break ever. When I went to northern tool to pick up my new air compressor, I was looking at the gearwrench brand to replace my stolen blue-point's and I found the Titan brand to offer a very nice complete sets of 13, vs only 8pc for grearwrench. I looked over and they look nice, they feel nice and for $120 for a 13pc SAE set and $89 for the 13pc metric set, the price is fair. Anyone ever used them? How do they hold up? and issues when returning broke one's? That about does it for now, Thanks for taking the time and helping me out!
Question about Air Tools? I sort of inherited a cheap set of air tools from friend of mine who didn't have the money to buy an air compressor to power them. Imagine my disappointment when I found the half-inch impact wrench didn't have enough guts to break loose a lug nut on my car. Now, I have a fleet of four cars to care for and an air wrench sure would come in handy. My question is, how much of an air wrench do I need to take off wheels? I looked in Home Depot and found their wrenches had anywhere from 100 to 650 foot-lbs of torque? How much is enough? Also, are there some brands to stay away from? Can I get something from Northern Tool or Harbor Freight or another cut rate place? I won't be using this tool a lot, but I want one which will do the job when I need it to. What does the Gallery say? Thanks, Sandy Thanks for all your answers. I did a little research of my own and found the only air impact wrench Wal-mart sells suffers from the same problem as mine. Harbor Freight has "the classic 1/2" air wrench" from IR for $135. I think I'll splurge a little and get that one rather than take a chance on another cheap tool.
How to put peat on a lawn? First-time comprehensive care. Northern clime. This fall I plan to: -get a univ. extension soil test -core aerate -add peat -overseed -add amendments, if drastically needed, that the test indicates -winter fertilize 1) In what order/combination should I do this? My plan was to soil-test in late July, early August; aerate in early September; then spread peat on; overseed; water often; winter fertilize in late October or early November. Still undecided on starter fertilizer during overseeding -- if needed, please advise, including how to space it with the winterizer (previous fertilization was mid-June). 2) With what tool do I "rake in" the peat? Or do I just drop in on the lawn and let it settle with time? 3) Do I mix the peat prior with topsoil and any needed amendments, if for no other reason than to make it go further? [sandy soil; sand not needed] 4) Overseeding done on top of the peat once it's down? Or mixed in with it prior in a wheelbarrow? Thank you!
do zippos overheat easily? i bought a zippo style lighter made by a brand called victor for $5 at harbor freight tools. that's like northern tool and equiptment and stores like that. even the bottom part of the zippo gets pretty hot, and it's too hot to even hold. also, it leaks a lot. i think i just filled it up too full though. (i only filled it about an hour ago). so is it normal for a real zippo to get so hot, so quickly? or is this fake zippo a peice of junk?
What is the best prebuilt hydroponics grow box? I don't really feel like building my own hydroponics grow box. I have read on the forums that most people do build their own but, I'm just not good with tools, and don't have the time. I want to order the best hydroponics grow box that I can but not pay to much money either. There seems to be companies like BC Northern lights and another company that looks good called homegrown hydroponics and was wondering what the best one is?
How do I install a go cart governor...? I just built a go cart with a 6.5 hp engine. It's for my 7 year old daughter, and it's just a little too fast for me to turn her loose on it. Is there any way I can slow this down without changing the throttle cable or sprockets? I know NASCAR uses restrictor plates ... is there anything like this for my motor? Here's some useless information (maybe it'll help). I'm using a motor from Harbor Freight Tools, and a 12T chain clutch from Northern Tool. The engine is one of those new cheap ones from China that's a rip off of the Honda versions. I also have a 60T sprocket on the drive wheel.
What do you need for this go kart kit? I was gunna get a go kart kit called the Nothern tool and Equipment go kart kit... http://www.amazon.com/Northern-Tool-Equipment-Go-Kart-Kit/dp/B000N4O4TG/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1240868408&sr=8-1 ...and i was wondering if I need a lot of knowledge about go karts to make it. I was also wondering what parts I needed to make it work and could you give me a brand for the parts?
hook up z 5500 speakers in my car? my factory stereo in my car is not so great. the head unit only works half the time and my speakers are not blown but they are pretty old and tired and need to be replaced. I was going to buy a nice head unit but if i bought a nice one for 100 dollars i would also have to buy 4 new speakers and i would want nice ones so it would be another 100 probably more. not to even mention the sub and amp. so today i realized i dont really use my logitech z 5500 speakers anymore so i threw them into my car powered by an extension cord and they sounded amazing. I played through 130 songs and every single one sounded very clear and the computer sopeakers went at least 3 times louder than my factory stereo. the sub sounds fantastic. you can really feel it in the back of the seat. i plan to buy a nice converter from northern tool or from duracell and run a thick cable all the way from the battery with a fuse and ground it if possible. is this a bad idea. i really dont have the money to get a real car audio sytem. so far the z 5500 seems perfect but it seems so many people think its a terrible idea. i have the speakers sitting on the back seat and because of the shape of my seat the stay put and i dont use my back seat so putting them back there is fine.
HELP! Pressure washer detergent injector not working? I've got a brand new General Pump detergent injector from Northern Tool. After I hook it up and turn on my washer the water just blasts out of the detergent hose back into my soap bucket?! What could be wrong here? I've got it hooked up in the right direction.. Thanks for any help! This is the injector I have. http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_200336163_200336163
Liberty trailer wiring kit - do I need just the simple T connectors or............? other kits? The Uhaul guy tried to sell me the $60 kit he said I needed (after looking it up) because it had to be wired to the battery, it had what looked to be a relay. This doent sound right, I have heard just a simple T connection. What do I need? Company website with a company server.? I would like to create a website for my company's department and was wondering what i needed to accomplish this task. A little background of our company. I work for Northern tool + Equipment. We have our own servers, so what would be the best way to lunch a website. oh and i would like to have an ftp as well but I don't know what i need to get either of these tasks done. Any literature on these topics would be great and how much it would cost (i.e. software, domain name, web hosting cost, etc.) Oh if I run this on our server then do I need a web host. Any if i can run this own our server then how would i do that?
Floor Jacks: Which Are The Most Reliable and Dependable ? I am looking for specifics on a floor jack (or jacks) that are known to be very reliable and dependable. ( I know that different manufacturers and brands have different lines, etc). Which ones are well-regarded within the industry - and which are not ? My vehiclle's Curb Weight is 4960 pounds. It's Gross Weight is 6129 pounds. Regardless of the weight, Sears floor jacks have pretty miserable feedback numbers. And the ones at Northern Tool have either no feedback or only one or two, which isn't much to go on. I understand the concept of "You get what you pay for". I have bottle jacks and jack stands that I have every confidence in. I am having a hard time finding some floor jacks to choose from that appear to be 'money in the bank'. Again, finding the cheapest one possible is not my motivation. I want those known to be the most reliable and dependable. What do you wise and worldly automotive gurus (that's you) think about this one ? Please bear in mind that this is NOT a question about jack stands. I know that jack stands are profoundly important and I have a number of them. The question I am asking is about JACKS themselves. (I'm always amazed that no matter how clearly I word a question, most of the answers I get are not in response to my question. They are usually about something related that somebody feels compelled to tell me about). I know that I can go to a shop and ask them - but even if I stopped at 5 shops - and figured out how to get them to go look at the jacks to see what they actually were (unlikely) that's still not a lot of info to go on. In the meanwhile, I have read good things about Milwaukee and US Jack.
Christmas is coming up, and I want a minibike? I know I want a mini bike, but my parents will spend little more than $300 on me. Should I ask for a welder to weld my own frame, ask for a pep boys mini bike that comes with an engine(crappy chinese engine) or ask for a pre built minibike frame from northern tool(no engine)? How hard is it to find tires and axles for it? I have very little welding experience. Or am I too old for a minibike(Im 15). i cant affoard a dirt bike
Am I wrong in this situation? I work at Northern Tool and have been a cashier there since october and I asked off time from the 25th of June to the 6th of July to go see my terminally ill Aunt. I got shit for that from my boss because it is so long whatever I can take it. So then he gave me the two weeks before it off for no reason, I was mad because I need to work and pay for rent and I asked him why and he just shrugged and said he will see what he can do but never got back to me because during that time he gave another part-time cashier almost 40 hrs a week and me 0 hrs and I have worked there longer. luckily I got some hours because another cashier quit. but today, I woke up and got a bunch of calls and texts asking where I was and I am supposed to work and I am not I worked yesterday and looked at the schedule yesterday. Apparently what happened was when I asked my boss why and he shrugged and never got back to me he apparently scheduled me to work today and wednesday without telling me and I made plans so I cannot go in today and I was going to leave tomorrow and just go early so I could have more time with my aunt but now I work wednesday and I am getting harrassing text from my co-workers and idk what to do... there is more (boss playing favs, etc.) but kinda relevant kinda not but its already too long sry
Are these good go-karts? I would like to buy a good beginner go-kart. The local Northern Tool has these go-karts.... http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_200325569_200325569 http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_200326632_200326632 http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_200372865_200372865 Which go-karts are the best out of these for beginners? I like all of them, but I'm not sure if they are crappy or good...Thanks!
How do I reduce the air pressure at the tank on my 60gal tank so the compressor doesn't keep running? I got a 60 gal air compressor from Northern Tool. The compressor is set to kick on at 125psi and cut off at 150psi. Is there an easy way to make it cut off at a lower PSI, like have it cut on at 100-110psi and cut off at 125psi? I could put in a lower relief valve, but then the compressor would still keep running (elec. motor). Is there a way to do this? My filter/regulator/lubricator is only set to 125psi and I dont want to risk something blowing up, and I doubt Ill ever need 150psi, 125 should be fine. Thanks!!! Thanks for the quick replies guys!! Where would I find another blowoff/relief valve? Would I have to get one set a 125psi if I reduce the tank pressure, or is it just a safety feature for the tank that I shouldnt touch?
Start-up cost for a mini stock dirt track team in Northern Alabama? I am looking into starting a race team for mini stock on dirt in Northern AL. I have a car, three car garage, tools, a potential crew, and a truck. (The car needs to be converted from a street car to a race car.) I need to know the price I am looking at for the rest of what needs to be done. -Trailer -Converting the car -Suit, Helmet, Shoes, Gloves -Seat I love dirt track racing and I want to get started in a small class and work my way up. Anyone in the Northern St. Paul, MN Suburbs need a Singer? I'm a vocalist that can sing a wide variety of music. I can do some opera, country, and punk... but I prefer Rock. My vocals are much like that of Breaking Benjamin, Crossfade crossed with some Taproot, Tool and Shinedown. I'm willing to try other things. I'm a great songwriter and am into the rock scene.
Speed Camera Question - Highlands and Northern Grampian Area? I was up in the highlands for the weekend to drive around in my new car. Near Golspie, and down in the country roads around Elgin, there was this speed teller/camera thing thast actually displayed the speed I was driving at. For the Golspie one, it told me that I was near 37 or 38 and the big 30 signs were just starting to appear, so by the time the sign was gone, the last speed I saw was 28, so I think I am good there. Also, the other one, the one near Elgin, I was at around 60 and then this village came where the speed limit all of a sudden was 30, so the sign told me to "Please Drive Slow" which I did when I realised that I was doing the double of what the limit is. I didnt see any flash going off but then again, I can be mistaken since I have heard that they use these non-flash cameras these days. Does anybody know if this is a speed camera or just a reminder tool used to remind drivers to drive slow and responsibly. Also, is it a requirement in Scotland to warn about Speed Cameras by appropriate camera sign boards or can they be anywhere. I know I am supposed to be under the limits, I am just curious to know the correctness of the theory of no-sign no-camera. If so, then what about Mobile Police Vans ? Is a sign board required or they can just park anywhere and check ?
Is there a difference between magic & technology/science? It is only recently that most of us can live our entire lives by not having to make anything for ourselves. Our ancestors only a few generations removed (depending where you live of course) had to make their own clothes, tools and anything else they needed. They witnessed the transformation of raw material into items of use or value. In example: plant-fibre-yarn-cloth or orestone-metal-tool. If you had no knowledge on how this process worked, would it not seem like magic to you? This is why I believe there are superstitions in Russia about spinning yarn, why within Siberian nomadic cultures the smith is regarded closer to a shaman, if they are not the shaman themselves, or why in some cultures in northern Africa it is the blacksmith that does the circumcition. So now that everything is delivered to us by money. How many of you can tell how your clothes where made or the cutlery on your table was produced? Do you called it magic or technology or science? I am still waiting for someone to get the point :) Leowyn came close. Take your modern goggles of and look at the question again from another viewpoint. Brian w: I ran out of space :) There is a reason why this question is posted on the anthropology section. Look back in time far enough, before the internet and books, you will find that gaining knowledge happened in two ways, either you where taught or you figured it out yourself. In both cases you had access to knowledge that others did not have. You could be smart enough to exploit it for power in your society. Ie. if you where the only one in the community who knew how to make a iron spearhead, you could trade it for gold. If everyone in the community learned the same skill you would lose your special status in your community. A magic trick is not magic anymore when everybody knows the trick. The alchemists where the last magicians and the first scientists. This makes me regard most science the same way as I regard magic (each one of you reading seems to interpret this word differently).
Portable Generator Purchase Decision? I'm looking to purchase a portable generator about 5,000 watts. Can someone give me a good , reliable , and very common brand that would be easy to get parts for ( if needed ) not just engine parts but the generator as well. I don't really know briggs & stratton"s reputation these days but I know I still see the older motors going even today. I'd like to spend under $ 500.00 but really under $350.00 ideally.. Any suggestions would be appreciated. There are just so many out there. Eastern Tool, Northern, Briggs, Troy Built etc...etc... I would be using this for my cottage apartment as well as "out on the road" for use with an automotive battery charger, Electric impact gun, and any type of camping needs. The higest consumer I can think of would be a portable electric heater at 1500w... I really don't need industrial. Thanks A model number would be great....heck, even a place to buy. Great advice. I figured in an emergency situation I might need (two) 1500 watt electric heaters for my apartment plus a light and maybe a small appliance. In fact, I could probably get away with a 2000 or 2500 watt generator if I use only one heater and a light . I don't want a lot of noise so it looks like I should really consider the Honda engine.. I'll keep doing my homework for a few more days... Thanks all...
what country is closest to a conservative utopia? As someone left of center, I can say that the Euro-socialist countries of Northern Europe roughly strike the right balance between providing a social safety net and tools for upward mobility on the one hand and allowing people to profit from hard work, smart investment, or innovation on the other. By contrast, most of the places I can think of that practice low taxes on the wealthy, weak labor laws and weak environmental and other regulations are mostly in the Third World, provide a very nice standard of living for a few people who live in gated communities, and everyone else lives in cardboard boxes in slums with nearly NO chance of upward mobility. Some will point to Hong Kong or Switzerland, but while Switzerland doesn't have socialized medicine and instead makes you buy insurance, they do have price controls that result in the Swiss paying a third as much as Americans. Price controls aren't exactly conservative. http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/37544.php Kris, Good points on Guatamala, but I'd question their "choice" back in the 50s, they elected a president who tried to do land reform by buying unused land from large plantations for the value they declared on their taxes (which of course the owners lowballed). For his trouble, we backed a coup and he was chased out of office. Since then, the US has backed a string of right wing strong men and death squads, so their choice has been influenced by a gun to their heads.

Does anyone think that these items would sale if I started advertising locally and bringing my products to farmers markets to start with and will this type of product sale in the winter time or mostly in the summer when outdoor living in. I live in northern California so the winters arn't all that bad.

How samrt is the Left? Newsletter March 25, 2007 Vol 2 Issue 6 The Other White Meat When President Bush asked for an additional 22,000 troops to compliment the forces in Iraq so we can hopefully end the conflict and put this war to bed, Congress obliged. However, now that the President is asking for $92 billion in emergency spending because the previous funds will run out next month, Congress in its irresponsible wisdom has delivered a car without a gas tank. In real terms, you can't drive a car without gas and you can't fight a war without the tools needed to get the job done, especially if you are pulling a trailer full of pork. To be perfectly blunt, most of the Democrats are against the war. It does not take a brain surgeon to realize that fact. So why waste the taxpayer?s time and money to push through a useless bill that everyone knows will be vetoed anyway. Okay all of you folks who are sitting on the left side of the aisle we heard you, we got your message. We are not as stupid as you believe we are. There are people out there that want to cut off our heads. So stop playing games and get the job done right. Get back to work and do the job you were elected to do; that is to uphold the constitution and protect the people of the United States. Tacking on all sorts of useless amendments is totally counterproductive. You were elected to represent the people not try to bribe your colleagues with all sorts of goodies so they will vote in your favor. Let us examine what bribes they have tried to use. The President asked for an additional $92 billion in emergency spending. He wanted $72 billion to fund the war and $20 billion in additional Hurricane Katrina relief. Knowing that placing a timetable on the bill by itself wouldn't allow it to fly so they tacked on all kinds of pork. Some of these amendments are so ridiculous that they would insult the intelligence of a two-year-old child. They added over $24 billion that has me scratching my head. Here are just a few amendments they added on: $4 billion in additional nationwide agricultural disaster assistance. The USDA did not request the funds. Even though farm income in 2005 was in excess of $72 billion, a record high, they added an additional $4 billion, which would not be used in areas that were affected by Hurricane Katrina. Sounds like another rainy day fund, only rain is not in the forecast. $700 million to reroute a railroad line so it can make room for a private development of additional casinos along the Gulf Coast. That line is now fully functional after it was repaired at a cost of $300 million after being damaged by Hurricane Katrina. CSX is not excited about moving their tracks they rebuilt it as fast as possible to meet their customers needs because it was a critical artery. There is nothing wrong with the existing line. Don't bet on this one. $594 million in additional highway funding. This is in addition to the $286 billion that was passed last year. Only this money has nothing to do with Katrina or Iraq. It would be used for the emergency relief highway backlog across the country. The only project specifically mentioned in the committee's report is the Kuhio Highway in Hawaii, which is, located over 4,000 miles away from the Gulf Coast. Sounds like another bridge to nowhere. $21 million is the amount President Bush originally wanted to restore fishery resources in the Gulf region as assistance to the seafood industry that was hard hit by Katrina. The House eliminated this portion of the bill. However, the Senate reinstated it and raised the stakes to over $1.1 billion. This is well beyond the already millions that were spent to repair and replace damaged boats and docks. Smells a little fishy to me. You are going to love this one! $3.8 billion to prepare for a potential bird flu epidemic like the last one. You know the last one that is the one where we have 500-million vaccines ready to go. The current vaccine is not scheduled to expire for at least two- years. So now, they want us to throw it all away and start over. Sounds like a bird brained idea to me. $74 million for the peanut farmers to store their crops. There is a peanut quota in the U.S. This holds down the supply and increases the price. So now, they want to hand the peanut farmers our hard- earned tax dollars to buy them storage units. I wonder if they will be located in Plains, Georgia. This sounds like a nutty idea. $400 million to help the timber industry in Oregon. This industry was originally hurt when Congress shut down harvesting the Northern timberlands to protect the Spotted Owl from being displaced. However, they have no problem displacing you and me through eminent domain if they needed our houses for a municipal parking lot. By the way, the Northern Spotted Owl originated in Mexico, they are probably here illegally. $400 million for the low-income energy assistance program. The Democrats have been blocking our efforts to drill our own oil resources. They also don't want us to increase nuclear power. So what are they going to do with the $400 million? Send me low energy light bulbs. Here is the real problem. According to the Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates the funding of the war runs out on April 15, 2007. If Congress does not act immediately, on April 15 there will be no funds available to protect our sons, daughters, brothers, sisters and friends who are fighting to keep America safe. Congress will be on Spring Break when that happens. They will be romping on the sands of Palm Beach and Santa Monica while our troops are romping on the sands of Baghdad. They will be sipping champagne and Rum Punch while our troops will be wondering where their next meal is coming from because the funds ran out. This is not the first time pork was added to an emergency spending bill. During the last go around, they tacked on a $1 million price tag for a telescope to be used to discover intelligent life in outer space. Let's start by looking for intelligent life in Washington, DC. And, that is my opinion. Michael Solomon If you want to help restore sanity to America, join the Flag Day campaign. Michael Solomon Author of 'Where Did My America Go?" Millie C wow you cought that ! Best way to clear your mind? Lately I've been feeling depressed, I'm not as enthusiastic as I used to be about things, and feel like I'm floating along. I have many options, but the two that stand out are. 1. Go and live, and work at a buddhist retreat center in Northern Californa. which would give me change of scenery, and tools to work through my internal issues through buddhist psychology. 2. Stay around here, find work, go to school and attend regualr therapy sessions with a Psychiatrist. " My thinking is that you can't fix a car while it's running. " ie...if I go and work in a remote area with positive like minded buddhists it may help me. your thoughts?
I need help creating the scarecrow in Virtaul Villagers 2? After reading this: 3) scarecrow... adept farmer can construct to protect the crops from the birds. Drag an adept farmer to the twisted pieces of wood and vines that are located in the northern portion of the village. scarecrow requires 2 trips to finish, so make sure that you finish the construction, or your crops will not be protected. ....It does not work for me.... Where do I exactly need to go to the twisted pieces of wood and vines that are located in the northern portion of the village? Everytime I go to the top of the screen and put my farmer up there all he says is that he needs a sharp tool for this. I am obviously not going to the right spot! Can someone help me? Thanks!!

I have automotive tools I've inherited that I'm selling. Where do I look to find what they're worth and where I inherited my dad's old school automotive repair tools, like two snap-on roll-around boxes stuffed with everything imaginable. I don't have a use for 'em but I don't want to just give 'em away either. Where do I look to find what they're worth and where to sell 'em without a big hassle? I'm in northern California and I have the tools in storage in central Arizona, so I don't know if that would make a difference on what I could ask for them. I'm hoping that I don't have to itemize EVERY piece there and I realize that I'd have to give some sort of accurate description of what I got. I don't have a lot of time to invest in trying to sell these, and it'd make it a lot easier if they sold by themselves! What should I do and where do I look?
what keeps popping up on my screen? ? struts on a dodge intrepid? i have a 1998 dodge intrepid with 169k miles. its on the origional struts, and its a northern ny car, so some bolts are pretty rusty. ive been thinking about getting new struts, as its pretty the only thing else maitanence wise i have left to do, but theyre like 80 bucks each, and im afraid ill need a bunch of other crap too besides the struts.... ill probably do just the front first... how logical is it to jack up one side of the car, take the wheel off, then basically take the strut and spring out, just to make sure all the bolts will break loose and there wont be any problems... and inspect the struts? im guessing theyre bad because they have so many miles on them... what should i look for as far as them being bad? and is the tool used to compress the spring to get the strut out universal? like i just buy some generic tool at autozone? .... do i need anything else besides struts? like some kind of bushings or whatever? im gonna check as much as i can for rust before i go buy e
What kind of miracles would Homer J. Simpson perform? Spanish Shopkeeper Finds Homer Simpson Euro MADRID (Reuters) - A one euro coin has turned up in Spain bearing the face of cartoon couch potato Homer Simpson instead of that of the country's king, a sweetshop owner told Reuters on Friday. Jose Martinez was counting the cash in his till in the city of Aviles, northern Spain, when he came across the coin where Homer's bald head, big eyes and big nose had replaced the serious features of King Juan Carlos. "The coin must have been done by a professional, the work is impressive," he told Reuters. The comical carver had not taken his tools to the other side of the coin displaying the map of Europe. So far, no other coins of the hapless, beer-swilling oaf have been found in circulation. "I've been offered 20 euros for it," said Martinez. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080808/od_uk_nm/oukoe_uk_homersimpson_euro_spain;_ylt=Akve_Q7v6HJPX0fpBGbzYSwuQE4F
Why do christians believe the age of the earth is just a few thousand years old? MADRID, Spain - A small piece of jawbone unearthed in a cave in Spain is the oldest known fossil of a human ancestor in Europe and suggests that people lived on the continent much earlier than previously believed, scientists say. The researchers said the fossil found last year at Atapuerca in northern Spain, along with stone tools and animal bones, is up to 1.3 million years old. That would be 500,000 years older than remains from a 1997 find that prompted the naming of a new species: Homo antecessor, or Pioneer Man, possibly a common ancestor to Neanderthals and modern humans. The new find appears to be from the same species, researchers said. A team co-led by Eudald Carbonell, director of the Catalan Institute of Human Paleo-Ecology and Social Evolution, reported their find in Thursday's issue of the scientific journal Nature. The timing of the earliest occupation of Europe by humans that emerged from Africa has been controversial for many years. Some archeologists believe the process was a stop-and-go one in which species of hominins — a group that includes the extinct relatives of modern humans — emerged and died out quickly only to be replaced by others, making for a very slow spread across the continent, Carbonell said in an interview. Until now the oldest hominin fossils found in Europe were the Homo antecessor ones, also found at Atapuerca, but at a separate digging site, and a skull from Ceprano in Italy. Carbonell's team has tentatively classified the new fossil as representing an earlier example of Homo antecessor. And, critically, the team says the new one also bears similarities to much-older fossils dug up since 1983 in the Caucasus at a place called Dmanisi, in the former Soviet republic of Georgia. These were dated as being up to 1.8 million years old. "This leads us to a very important, very interesting conclusion," Carbonell said. It is this: that hominins which emerged from Africa and settled in the Caucasus eventually evolved into Homo antecessor, and that the latter populated Europe not 800,000 years ago, but at least 1.3 million years ago. "This discovery of a 1.3 million-year-old fossil shows the process was accelerated and continuous; that the occupation of Europe happened very early and much faster than we had thought," Carbonell said. PROOF OF EVOLUTION "This is a well-dated site, as much as any site that age can be," Stringer said. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23813443/

Check this out One more stat to our corner? NRA-ILA Grassroots Alert Vol. 13, No. 14 04/07/06 States with updates this issue: Arizona, Connecticut, Delaware, Idaho, Illinois, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, New York, South Carolina, and Texas. RIGHT-TO-CARRY NOW LAW IN NEBRASKA! On April 5, Governor Dave Heineman (R) signed Legislative Bill 454 into law, making Right-to-Carry the law of the land in Nebraska! "It took over a decade to bring Right-to-Carry to the good citizens of Nebraska, but those years of hard work have paid off tremendously," declared NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris W. Cox. "I want to thank Governor Dave Heineman, and Senator Jeanne Combs (R-32), for their support and their efforts in giving Nebraskans the right to protect themselves and their loved ones. Senator Combs' dedication and persistence was vital in ensuring passage of this measure through the state legislature." LB 454 passed with bi-partisan support, as Nebraska senators voted 33-12 in favor of the measure. The bill allows law-abiding Nebraskans who undergo a background check and apply for a permit to carry a concealed firearm for self-protection. Two weeks ago, legislators in neighboring Kansas overrode Governor Sebelius' (D) veto to bring Right-to-Carry to that state as well. Now, of all the 50 states, only Wisconsin and Illinois flatly refuse to recognize the right of law-abiding citizens to carry concealed firearms for self-protection against criminal attack. "Once again, on behalf of our NRA members in Nebraska, I want to thank all the legislators who voted to bring Right-to-Carry to their state," concluded Cox. "And as always, we appreciate the commitment and participation of our members in Nebraska for their part in making it happen." To view this legislation use the "Bills" feature at the following link http://alisdb.legislature.state.al.us/acas/ACASLogin.asp GOVERNOR RILEY SIGNS ALABAMA "CASTLE DOCTRINE" INTO LAW! On April 4, Alabama Governor Bob Riley (R) signed NRA-backed "Castle Doctrine" bill SB 283 into law. Senator Larry Means (D-10), and Representative Albert Hall (D-22), sponsored the self-defense bill. With overwhelming support, SB 283 passed the Alabama House by a vote of 82 to 9, and the Alabama State Senate by a vote of 30 to 2. ILA's Chris W. Cox, stated, "We thank Governor Riley for signing this vital legislation into law for the people of Alabama. Law-abiding citizens now have the choice to defend themselves and their families in the face of attack without fear of criminal prosecution and civil litigation." The "Castle Doctrine" bill removes the "duty to retreat" if an individual is attacked in his or her home, vehicle, place of business, or any other place he or she has a legal right to be. This legislation also states that victims may use necessary force to defend themselves against the attacker. "I would like to thank the bill's sponsors, Senator Means and Representative Hall, and the Alabama State Senators and State Representatives who supported this bill. As always, we also thank all the NRA members and lawful gun owners who contacted their representatives and urged them to support this vital self-defense measure," concluded Cox. SUPPORT HR 5092-- "THE BATFE MODERNIZATION AND REFORM ACT OF 2006" On April 5, the leaders of the House Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security--Representatives Howard Coble (R-N.C.), and Bobby Scott (D-Va.)--joined forces to introduce H.R. 5092, the "Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) Modernization and Reform Act of 2006." This bipartisan bill is a critical first step toward finally reforming BATFE. First and foremost, H.R. 5092 totally revises the system of administrative penalties for licensed dealers, manufacturers and importers of firearms. Today, for most violations, BATFE can only give an FFL holder a warning, or totally revoke the license. This bill would allow fines or license suspensions for less serious violations, while allowing license revocation for the kind of serious violations that would block an investigation or put guns in the hands of criminals. H.R. 5092 also clarifies the standard for violations-allowing penalties for intentional, purposeful violations of the law, but not for simple paperwork mistakes. Congress thought it had fixed this problem in 1986 when it passed the Firearms Owners' Protection Act, but the government has ignored that law-and has even argued in court that the 1986 changes were "without practical significance." The bill also improves the process by which BATFE imposes these penalties, notably by allowing FFLs to appeal BATFE penalties to a neutral administrative law judge, rather than to an employee of BATFE itself. H.R. 5092 would change BATFE's enforcement operations in several ways, from requiring the Inspector General of the U.S. Department of Justice to review of BATFE gun show enforcement operations, to demanding that the Bureau establish clear investigative guidelines. Finally, the bill would focus BATFE's efforts on violations of firearms, explosives, arson, alcohol and tobacco laws, rather than non-jurisdictional areas. Please be sure to contact your U.S. Representative at (202) 225-3121, and urge him or her to cosponsor and support H.R. 5092, the "Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Modernization and Reform Act of 2006!" SENATOR VITTER INTRODUCES S. 2599--THE SENATE VERSION OF THE "DISASTER RECOVERY PERSONAL PROTECTION ACT OF 2006" On April 7, U.S. Senator David Vitter (R-La.) introduced S. 2599--the Senate companion bill to H.R. 5013, the "Disaster Recovery Personal Protection Act of 2006" introduced on March 28, by U.S. Congressman Bobby Jindal (R-La.). This NRA-supported bill would amend federal emergency statute laws to prohibit local authorities from confiscating lawfully owned firearms during times of disaster. Thirty three states have "emergency powers" laws that give the government permission to suspend or limit gun sales, and to prohibit or restrict citizens from transporting or carrying firearms--something NRA-ILA is working to change. In some states, authorities can seize guns outright from citizens who have committed no crime--and who would then be defenseless against disorder. Please be sure to contact your U.S. Senators and your U.S. Representative, and urge them to cosponsor and support S. 2599, and H.R. 5013, respectively, the "Disaster Recovery Personal Protection Act of 2006!" You can reach your Senators at (202) 224-3121 and your Representative at (202) 225-3121. SUPPORT H.R. 5005, THE "FIREARMS CORRECTIONS AND IMPROVEMENTS ACT" Representative Lamar Smith (R-Tex.) recently introduced H.R. 5005, the "Firearms Corrections and Improvements Act," which would make a variety of technical changes to federal firearm laws. The bill would roll back unnecessary restrictions, correct errors, and codify longstanding congressional policies in the arena of firearms laws. Among its provisions, H.R. 5005 would: permanently ban taxes or "user fees" on background checks by the federal instant check system--fees that Congress has prohibited in annual appropriations riders since 1998; permanently ban creation of a centralized electronic index of dealers' records--a threat to gun owners' privacy that Congress has barred through appropriations riders for a decade; codify limits on disclosure of trace records--which Congress has already limited through a series of appropriations riders over the past few years, out of concern for gun owners' privacy and the confidentiality of law enforcement records; and repeal of obsolete language from the Brady Act's "interim" waiting period provisions, that expired in 1998. Please be sure to contact your U.S. Representative at (202) 225-3121, and urge him or her to cosponsor and support H.R. 5005, the "Firearms Corrections and Improvements Act!" CONNECTICUT As we have been reporting, the anti-gun crowd has redoubled their efforts to pass last year's proposal to make it a crime to fail to report the loss or theft of a firearm within 72 hours from when you "knew or should have known" of the theft. This year's version is outrageous! H.B. 5818, now includes language that would subject gun owners to criminal investigation and jeopardy of prosecution even if they report the theft because a court will now be given the ability to decide whether the firearm was stored in such a manner that provided "substantial and unjustifiable risk" that it would be stolen. Even worse, if the police recover the firearm before the gun owner has discovered it missing and made the report, it will be considered automatic evidence of guilt of violation of this proposed law, as well as guilt of an illegal transfer. Conviction of the "illegal transfer," which is a felony, would permanently end your right to own a firearm! In response to the large number of phone calls that are coming in from legitimate gun owners, Connecticut Against Gun Violence has put out desperate pleas to the anti-gun crowd asking them to write, e-mail and call lawmakers in an effort to drown out your voice! If you have not contacted your legislators yet, we urge you to do so today! The Public Safety and Security Committee could consider HB 5818 as early as next week. The Public Safety and Security Committee can be reached at (860) 240-0570. For more information on the Public Safety and Security Committee please visit www.cga.ct.gov/ps/. DELAWARE The Delaware House of Representatives may be voting as early as Tuesday on H.B. 359, sponsored by Representative Deborah Hudson (R-12), the NRA-backed "shall-issue" Right-to-Carry bill. This bill would allow law-abiding citizens that fulfilled the requirements for a concealed weapons permit to be granted a permit without discrimination. Your State Representative needs to hear from you! Please take the time to call or e-mail your State Representative TODAY and respectfully urge him or her to support HB 359 when it comes before them for consideration. The future of Right-to-Carry in Delaware depends on it! IDAHO Thanks to the efforts of NRA members across the State of Idaho who sent thousands of e-mails and made countless phone calls to State lawmakers, four important bills have become law in the state and a fifth is on the way. Senator Gerry Sweet (R-20) and Representative Bill Sali (R-21) co-sponsored three NRA-supported bills: House Bill 686 will protect non-profit shooting ranges and gun clubs from having taxes imposed on their range fees and membership dues; Senate Bill 1401, "Emergency Powers" legislation, will prevent government officials from imposing restrictions on the lawful possession, transfer, sale, transport, storage, display or use of firearms and ammunition during a disaster emergency; and Senate Bill 1428, "Right-to-Carry" reform legislation, that extends the concealed weapon license from four to five years and, like driver's licenses, requires renewal notices be sent out prior to license expiration. This bill also provides an exemption from the concealed weapon license requirement for a person who possesses a concealed weapon while on property he or she owns or leases. Senator Skip Brandt (R-8) proposed House Bill 608, legislation that creates an NRA motor vehicle license plate. This bill has also become law, so look to sign up for a special NRA license plate in the near future. The fifth bill, Senate Bill 1441, is "Castle Doctrine" legislation that would provide immunity from civil action for anyone who has used lawful force in self-defense. Under SB 1441, if a criminal attacks a victim and the victim successfully defends him or herself and, in the process, injures or kills the criminal, then neither the criminal nor the criminal's family can obtain a judgment against the victim for damages. This bill, carried by Senators Mel Richardson (R-32) and Joyce Broadsword (R-2), has passed both the Senate and House and is headed to the Governor's desk. ILLINOIS Thanks to the efforts of those who contacted their State Representative, H.B. 4853 passed the House with an NRA-supported amendment that excludes ammunition. The House concurred on this legislation with the Senate offered and NRA-supported amendment overwhelmingly by voting 115 to 1. Without this important amendment, H.B. 4853 as originally passed by the House could have been used to target ammunition manufacturers, distributors, users, and owners of property where firearms are lawfully discharged. This legislation will now head to the Governor's desk. LOUISIANA On Tuesday, the Senate Judiciary C Committee reported out S.B. 93, by Senator Joe McPherson (D-29), NRA-backed legislation amending the state's emergency powers act to prohibit the seizure and confiscation of legally possessed firearms in the unfortunate event of another natural disaster in the State of Louisiana. The full Senate could vote the bill on as early as Monday afternoon. Please e-mail and call your State Senators on Monday morning and urge them to support SB 93. Although an official agenda had not been posted as when this Alert went to print, it is expected the House Administration of Criminal Justice Committee may hold hearings on the House versions of measures to end New Orleans-style gun confiscations during a state of emergency: H.B. 36 by Representative Pete Schneider (R-90), H.B. 136 by Representative Troy Hebert (D-49), H.B. 172 by Representative Danny Martiny (R-79), and HB 760 by Representative Steve Scalise (R-82). Please email and call the members of the committee and urge them to support these measures. The committee normally meets on Wednesday and Thursday mornings in Room 6 of the State Capitol. To contact your state lawmakers, check the committee's schedule, and agenda, or for a list of committee members, please call the PULS line at (225) 342-2456 (from the Baton Rouge area) or (800) 256-3793 (outside the Baton Rouge area) or visit http://senate.legis.state.la.us/Senators, http://house.louisiana.gov, and http://www.legis.state.la.us MAINE Representative Josh Tardy (R-Newport) is offering an important amendment that adds two important provisions to L.D.1938, "An Act To Protect Victims of Domestic Violence." The "Tardy Amendment" would do the following: (1) Allow the court to order a person seeking a "protection from abuse" order--who is proven to be in "bad faith"--to pay damages and reasonable attorney's fees to the defendant and; (2) Makes law enforcement officials responsible for damage to firearms resulting from a lack of reasonable care, which are seized, surrendered or relinquished. Presently, the possibility of "bad faith" orders within the court system create a "shadow of doubt"--hurting the true victims of domestic violence. This measure would help eliminate "bad faith" orders from occurring, thus furthering validity for all legitimate "protection from abuse" proceedings. Furthermore, relinquished firearms are often damaged and sometimes never returned to the owner after a "protection from abuse" order is terminated. This amendment would correct that problem. Similar language recently passed the Pennsylvania Legislature and was supported by all stakeholders, including gun owners as well as domestic violence organizations. This measure passed overwhelmingly with bipartisan support. Please call your State Legislator today and respectfully ask him or her to support the "Tardy Amendment!" Your State Legislator can be contacted in Augusta at (800) 423-2900. MICHIGAN Governor Jennifer Granholm (D) signed two pro-gun bills, both sponsored by Representative Rick Jones (R-71). H.B. 4643 addresses a problem with concealed pistol licenses (CPL) being renewed in a timely fashion. Apparently, the Detroit area was taking 9 to 10 months to renew concealed pistol licenses! HB 4643 corrects the renewal process by requiring a proper renewal to be completed within 60 days or the license is extended for 180 days or until the permit is renewed. H.B. 4642 allows a licensed spouse to carry or transport another licensed spouse's inspected pistol. A thank you goes out to Governor Granholm for signing these two important Right-to-Carry reform bills into law. NEW YORK On April 9, members of the Assembly Health Committee are set to consider A. 6608A, sponsored by Assemblywoman Ginny Fields (D-5), an NRA-supported bill that would protect existing shooting ranges from new noise ordinances and nuisance lawsuits aimed at shutting them down. A. 6608A provides that facilities must comply with noise ordinances in place at the time of construction of the range. The Senate companion bill to A 6608A, S. 3353A, is sponsored by Senator Dale Volker (R-59) and could be voted on by the full Senate at any time. Please contact your lawmakers today and urge them to support A. 6606A and S. 3353A. The general phone number to the Senate is (518) 455-2800. The general phone number for the Assembly is (518) 455-4100. SOUTH CAROLINA Thanks to phone calls from NRA members H. 4681, introduced by Representative Mike Pitts (R-14), unanimously passed the House Judiciary Committee's Constitutional Laws Subcommittee with an added amendment that further strengthens the bill. H 4681 will now come before the full Judiciary Committee. This legislation would remove the ability of local governments to restrict the use, sale, or transportation of firearms during a state of emergency, and would also prohibit South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) from releasing the personal information of Right-to-Carry (RTC) permit holders unless the request for the information is part of an investigation by law enforcement. Please contact the members of the House Judiciary Committee and urge them to support H 4681. A list of the members of the Judiciary Committee can be found by going to www.scstatehouse.net/html-pages/housecommlst.html#jud TEXAS Primary runoff elections will be held on Tuesday, April 11. Please check www.nrapvf.org to see whether a runoff election is being held in your area and to see how the candidates measure up on issues of importance to gun owners and sportsmen. Spread the word to your family, friends, and co-workers about the primary runoff elections, because every vote counts!

vicky help ????//?? alleged benefit.” The choice to permit death is a controversial issue in our society. Those against the permission of death believe euthanasia is a rejection of the importance and value of human life. Euthanasia should be legalized Of the controversial discussions involving euthanasia, the question of legalization is an often argued one. Whether euthanasia ought to be illegal is different from the question of whether it is immoral. A poll conducted by CBS News claims that a majority of Americans favor assisted suicide. Assisted suicide is someone who provides an individual with the information, guidance, and means to take his or her life with the intention that they will be used for this purpose. However previous polls show the nation is as least split on the issue or opposed to the grisly practice. And what may matter most, actual ballot votes on the subject, have Americans strongly opposed. This particular poll questioned about 1300 Americans on if they thought "a doctor be allowed to assist the person in taking their own life" that "has a disease that will ultimately destroy their mind or body and they want to take their own life." Some 56% said yes, where 37% said no. voters in Oregon twice approved allowing assisted suicide there; other states have shown that assisted suicide is not popular. In 1997, Oregon passed the Death with Dignity Act, making it the only state to permit physician assisted suicide. One of the most important public policy debates today surrounds the issues of euthanasia and assisted suicide. The outcome of that debate will profoundly affect family relationships, interaction between doctors and patients, and concepts of basic ethical behavior. Around the world, euthanasia is only legal is some areas. In The Netherlands, euthanasia and assisted suicide had been legalized on April 10th, 2001. The Dutch Parliament approved the “Termination of Life on Request and Assisted Suicide Act.” The offenses of euthanasia and assisted suicide are not punishable if they have been “committed by a physician who has met the requirements of due care. With the passage of the “Rights of the Terminally Ill Act,” in 1995, Australia became the only jurisdiction in the world with both legalized assisted suicide and euthanasia. This law went into effect in July of 2006. It was repealed in 1997. The Australia Medical Association opposed the Northern Territorial legislation while it continues to oppose both euthanasia and assisted suicide. The Belgian Act legalized euthanasia on May 28th, 2002 and went into effect in September of that year. It limits euthanasia to competent adults and emancipated minors. However, two years later, lawmakers introduced a proposal to extend euthanasia to children and individuals suffering from dementia, a disease in the brain. Euthanasia and assisted suicide advocates in the United States will continue to push their agenda throughout the world to make death-on-demand accepted and legal. As of early 2005, no other countries have legalized either euthanasia or assisted suicide. One well-known man best associated with this issue is, Dr. Jack Kevorkian, also known as, "Dr. Death." He is famous for his quotation, “death is not a crime.” He is a controversial American pathologist. He is most noted for publicly championing a terminal patient’s “right to die” and claims to have assisted over 130 patients to that end. In 1989, Kevorkian invented the Thanatron, which translates from Greek to English as the "Death Machine. The Thanatron was Kevorkian's tool that he used in many physician-assisted suicides. Physician assisted suicide is when it is a doctor who helps another person to kill themselves. The machine operated through the use of intravenous drip to administer various doses of fluids to facilitate the death of a patient. Typically, the first dose, which is administered by the patient, was a drug called thiopental. This drug acts as a sleeping agent that sends the patient's body into a comatose state. He was imprisoned in 1999, serving ten to twenty-five year prison sentence for second degree murder in the 1988 poisoning of Thomas Youlk. He has just recently been released from prison on June 1, 2007 yet isn’t expected to live very long due to his case of hepatitis C. Theresa Marie "Terri" Schiavo was a woman who suffered brain damage and became dependant on a feeding tube. She had collapsed in her home on February 25th, 1990 being only twenty six years old and experienced respiratory and cardiac arrest, leading to 15 years of institutionalization and a diagnosis of persistent vegetative state (PVS). Terri’s husband, Michael requested and received from Judge George Greer in Clearwater, Florida- the right to dehydrate Terri to death by removing her feeding tube. Terri’s parents have fought for their daughter’s life, but after five years, the courts turned their backs. Despite testimony by credible medical experts that Terri might still be able to relearn to eat by mouth, Judge Greer refused to even allow her that opportunity. Terri’s feeding tube was removed on October 15th, 2003. People who believe that euthanasia should most definitely be illegal are less facts to back up their opinions. Administration of a lethal injection would provide a quick and painless death, whereas letting die maybe neither quick nor painless. Patients are under the illusion that natural death is in general, a painless, dignified slipping away However, it can take a long and unpredictable course. To put things quite clearly, a person who has a deadly illness and seems to be suffering greatly from this illness definitely has the right to end his life. The person's immediate family should have the right to decide to pull the plug and end their family member's life if they believe that this action will be in the best interest of their family member. The government and the courts have no right in deciding who has the right to die or not in the issue of assisted suicide in people with great amount of pain. A suffering person should not have to suffer if he does not want to. Is this what they will rallie for next? This is what alot bring over the border.? MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Possessing marijuana, cocaine and even heroin will no longer be a crime in Mexico if the drugs are carried in small amounts for personal use, under legislation passed by the Mexican Congress. ADVERTISEMENT The measure given final passage by senators late on Thursday allows police to focus on their battle against major drug dealers, the government says, and President Vicente Fox is expected to sign it into law. "This law provides more judicial tools for authorities to fight crime," presidential spokesman Ruben Aguilar said on Friday. The measure was approved earlier by the lower house. Under the legislation, police will not penalize people for possessing up to 5 grams of marijuana, 5 grams of opium, 25 milligrams of heroin or 500 milligrams of cocaine. People caught with larger quantities of drugs will be treated as narcotics dealers and face increased jail terms under the plan. The legal changes will also decriminalize the possession of limited quantities of other drugs, including LSD, hallucinogenic mushrooms, amphetamines and peyote -- a psychotropic cactus found in Mexico's northern deserts. Hundreds of people, including several police officers, have been killed in the past year as drug cartels battle authorities and compete with each other for control of lucrative cocaine, marijuana and heroin smuggling routes from Mexico into the United States. Bannana I do worry about my ****ing country. This is MY country they are trying to bring these drugs into. In MY country if you do something ILLEGAL you go to jail. Unless you have a million people ralling for you!
who is the Most Influential Persons in History? http://www.beautifulislam.net/prophethood/ A Ranking of the Most Influential Persons in History: Muhammad #1 by Michael H. Hart My choice of Muhammad to lead the list of the world's most influential persons may surprise some readers and may be questioned by others, but he was the only man in history who was supremely successful on both the religious and secular levels. Of humble origins, Muhammad founded and promulgated one of the world's great religions, and became an immensely effective political leader. Today, thirteen centuries after his death, his influence is still powerful and pervasive. The majority of the persons in this book had the advantage of being born and raised in centers of civilization, highly cultured or politically pivotal nations. Muhammad, however, was born in the year 570, in the city of Mecca, in southern Arabia, at that time a backward area of the world, far from the centers of trade, art, and learning. Orphaned at age six, he was reared in modest surroundings. Islamic tradition tells us that he was illiterate. His economic position improved when, at age twenty-five, he married a wealthy widow. Nevertheless, as he approached forty, there was little outward indication that he was a remarkable person. Most Arabs at that time were pagans, who believed in many gods. There were, however, in Mecca, a small number of Jews and Christians; it was from them no doubt that Muhammad first learned of a single, omnipotent God who ruled the entire universe. When he was forty years old, Muhammad became convinced that this one true God (Allah) was speaking to him, and had chosen him to spread the true faith. For three years, Muhammad preached only to close friends and associates. Then, about 613, he began preaching in public. As he slowly gained converts, the Meccan authorities came to consider him a dangerous nuisance. In 622, fearing for his safety, Muhammad fled to Medina (a city some 200 miles north of Mecca), where he had been offered a position of considerable political power. This flight, called the Hegira, was the turning point of the Prophet's life. In Mecca, he had had few followers. In Medina, he had many more, and he soon acquired an influence that made him a virtual dictator. During the next few years, while Muhammad s following grew rapidly, a series of battles were fought between Medina and Mecca. This was ended in 630 with Muhammad's triumphant return to Mecca as conqueror. The remaining two and one-half years of his life witnessed the rapid conversion of the Arab tribes to the new religion. When Muhammad died, in 632, he was the effective ruler of all of southern Arabia. The Bedouin tribesmen of Arabia had a reputation as fierce warriors. But their number was small; and plagued by disunity and internecine warfare, they had been no match for the larger armies of the kingdoms in the settled agricultural areas to the north. However, unified by Muhammad for the first time in history, and inspired by their fervent belief in the one true God, these small Arab armies now embarked upon one of the most astonishing series of conquests in human history. To the northeast of Arabia lay the large Neo-Persian Empire of the Sassanids; to the northwest lay the Byzantine, or Eastern Roman Empire, centered in Constantinople. Numerically, the Arabs were no match for their opponents. On the field of battle, though, the inspired Arabs rapidly conquered all of Mesopotamia, Syria, and Palestine. By 642, Egypt had been wrested from the Byzantine Empire, while the Persian armies had been crushed at the key battles of Qadisiya in 637, and Nehavend in 642. But even these enormous conquests-which were made under the leadership of Muhammad's close friends and immediate successors, Abu Bakr and 'Umaribn al-Khattab - did not mark the end of the Arab advance. By 711, the Arab armies had swept completely across North Africa to the Atlantic Ocean There they turned north and, crossing the Strait of Gibraltar, overwhelmed the Visigothic kingdom in Spain. For a while, it must have seemed that the Moslems would overwhelm all of Christian Europe. However, in 732, at the famous Battle of Tours, a Moslem army, which had advanced into the center of France, was at last defeated by the Franks. Nevertheless, in a scant century of fighting, these Bedouin tribesmen, inspired by the word of the Prophet, had carved out an empire stretching from the borders of India to the Atlantic Ocean-the largest empire that the world had yet seen. And everywhere that the armies conquered, large-scale conversion to the new faith eventually followed. Now, not all of these conquests proved permanent. The Persians, though they have remained faithful to the religion of the Prophet, have since regained their independence from the Arabs. And in Spain, more than seven centuries of warfare 5 finally resulted in the Christians reconquering the entire peninsula. However, Mesopotamia and Egypt, the two cradles of ancient civilization, have remained Arab, as has the entire coast of North Africa. The new religion, of course, continued to spread, in the intervening centuries, far beyond the borders of the original Moslem conquests. Currently it has tens of millions of adherents in Africa and Central Asia and even more in Pakistan and northern India, and in Indonesia. In Indonesia, the new faith has been a unifying factor. In the Indian subcontinent, however, the conflict between Moslems and Hindus is still a major obstacle to unity. How, then, is one to assess the overall impact of Muhammad on human history? Like all religions, Islam exerts an enormous influence upon the lives of its followers. It is for this reason that the founders of the world's great religions all figure prominently in this book . Since there are roughly twice as many Christians as Moslems in the world, it may initially seem strange that Muhammad has been ranked higher than Jesus. There are two principal reasons for that decision. First, Muhammad played a far more important role in the development of Islam than Jesus did in the development of Christianity. Although Jesus was responsible for the main ethical and moral precepts of Christianity (insofar as these differed from Judaism), St. Paul was the main developer of Christian theology, its principal proselytizer, and the author of a large portion of the New Testament. Muhammad, however, was responsible for both the theology of Islam and its main ethical and moral principles. In addition, he played the key role in proselytizing the new faith, and in establishing the religious practices of Islam. Moreover, he is the author of the Moslem holy scriptures, the Koran, a collection of certain of Muhammad's insights that he believed had been directly revealed to him by Allah. Most of these utterances were copied more or less faithfully during Muhammad's lifetime and were collected together in authoritative form not long after his death. Webmaster's note: Mr Hart writes, "he is the author of the Moslem holy scriptures" which is INCORRECT. Prophet Muhammad was the person to whom the Quran was revealed by its Author - God. The Koran therefore, closely represents Muhammad's ideas and teachings and to a considerable extent his exact words. No such detailed compilation of the teachings of Christ has survived. Since the Koran is at least as important to Moslems as the Bible is to Christians, the influence of Muhammed through the medium of the Koran has been enormous It is probable that the relative influence of Muhammad on Islam has been larger than the combined influence of Jesus Christ and St. Paul on Christianity. On the purely religious level, then, it seems likely that Muhammad has been as influential in human history as Jesus. Furthermore, Muhammad (unlike Jesus) was a secular as well as a religious leader. In fact, as the driving force behind the Arab conquests, he may well rank as the most influential political leader of all time. Of many important historical events, one might say that they were inevitable and would have occurred even without the particular political leader who guided them. For example, the South American colonies would probably have won their independence from Spain even if Simon Bolivar had never lived. But this cannot be said of the Arab conquests. Nothing similar had occurred before Muhammad, and there is no reason to believe that the conquests would have been achieved without him. The only comparable conquests in human history are those of the Mongols in the thirteenth century, which were primarily due to the influence of Genghis Khan. These conquests, however, though more extensive than those of the Arabs, did not prove permanent, and today the only areas occupied by the Mongols are those that they held prior to the time of Genghis Khan. It is far different with the conquests of the Arabs. From Iraq to Morocco, there extends a whole chain of Arab nations united not merely by their faith in Islam, but also by their Arabic language, history, and culture. The centrality of the Koran in the Moslem religion and the fact that it is written in Arabic have probably prevented the Arab language from breaking up into mutually unintelligible dialects, which might otherwise have occurred in the intervening thirteen centuries. Differences and divisions between these Arab states exist, of course, and they are considerable, but the partial disunity should not blind us to the important elements of unity that have continued to exist. For instance, neither Iran nor Indonesia, both oil-producing states and both Islamic in religion, joined in the oil embargo of the winter of 1973-74. It is no coincidence that all of the Arab states, and only the Arab states, participated in the embargo. We see, then, that the Arab conquests of the seventh century have continued to play an important role in human history, down to the present day. It is this unparalleled combination of secular and religious influence which I feel entitles Muhammad to be considered the most influential single figure in human history. Webmaster's note: Phrases like "the influence of Muhammed through the medium of the Koran" and "Muhammad's triumphant return to Mecca as conqueror" are very likely to misinform the readers because they suggest that the Qur'an is but a tool of the Prophet and that Islam was spread by the sword for no other reason than to conquer lands for power.
Essay Help Please Any Corrections or Revisions are Appreciated? Following the American Civil War came a self-reliant and inspiring Booker Taliaferro Washington an esteemed black educator who demanded civil reform with authority. Life was not simple for Booker T who from the minute of his birth on April 5, 1856, was brought in enslavement. Working in the burdensome salt furnace at the young age of ten with his father, while still attending school, his life had a tough schedule, which was lessened by his admission to the Hampton Institute, a school set up by rich whites to instruct newly freed slaves from the Civil War. There he worked as a janitor to pay for his school fee. Completing his time in Hampton in 1875, he was hired in the fall of 1879 to teach young Native Americans and to teach night classes for black men and women. He was well aware of the hardships face by the common black man Booker T taught black people how to economically better themselves to help raise the African community above their current status, his ideas proved to be very effective in helping the Post-Civil War African community grow and his beliefs still are present today. The Hampton Institute gave Booker T. the building blocks for his later endeavors. The curriculum was based on industrial arts and moral cultivation instead of intellectual pursuits, Booker T found his way around to better himself intellectually. In 1881 Booker T created the Industrial Tuskegee Institute in Alabama. Made from a worn down old church, came the leading educational center for blacks, who in the making created the Tuskegee Movement: a list of policies, views, and tactics that made Booker T. Washington the "the race leader" in dealing with the "Negro Problem". From his southern small-town headquarters he showered the nation with schools and newspapers, creating a means by which the African Population could free themselves of "Jim Crow's noose" and "Uncle Tom's iron-grip". He later established the National Negro Business League in 1901 which was created to "promote the commercial and financial development of the Negro". By himself, he was making a more self-confident, and more aware black man. Washington told blacks to just accept social segregation and focus more on trying to acquire better jobs and more education because it would be better for the community as a whole. His thoughts on race relations and his burgeoning influence white northern philanthropists and had great recognition among blacks. In a speech delivered in 1895, known as the Atlanta Compromise address, he voiced antidemocratic views and endorsed segregation. Booker T. Washington's engrossment on the issue of Negro denial to citizenship enlarged tension between black and whites and made Niagara Movement (1905-1909) and the NAACP. Both groups worked to relieve the Negro's difficulty, through civil rights, political rights, and anti-lynching campaigns. Even though Washington did not openly back them, he secretly fought against racial violence and Jim Crow laws by hiding blacks from lynching mobs and sending anonymous letters of protest. Booker T. Washington's motto was "work hard and acquire property" and whites will welcome you. By endorsing segregation and racial pride, he pleased whites and blacks. By gaining white recognition and international distinction he used these tools to help his master plan for black progress in a segregated harmony. The legacy of his philosophy still shows through his autobiography, Up From Slavery (1901),where he stood for economic self-reliance.

On CTV news this evening there was an article that scientist are expecting that the west coast of? washington/british columbia could experience a significant earthquake in the next two weeks . This is apparently a trend that they have been noticing for some time...after this 2 week period of increased possibility...we should be 'safe' again until April 2008. Does anyone know anything more about this......??? CTV.ca News Staff Experts warn that British Columbia's southern coast has entered a two-week window of increased probability in which a major earthquake could occur. While the chances of that happening are still very slim, such an event could trigger a tsunami equal to the size and the strength of what hit Sumatra in 2004. Seismologists with B.C.'s Geological Survey of Canada made the announcement after measuring a series of minor tremors along the Cascadia Subduction Zone -- a long, sloping fault that stretches from northern California to Vancouver Island. The zone, which separates the Juan de Fuca Plate and the North American Plate, has a very large fault area which can produce large earthquakes with a magnitude of 9.0 or greater if a rupture were to occur. "Where the Juan de Fuca plate is subducting beneath the North American plate, and where those plates are touching, it's locked," earthquake seismologist Alison Bird told CTV.ca. "To the east of that, every 14 months we see low frequency tremor activity ... sliding along that zone, which is almost directly beneath us," Bird told CTV.ca in a phone interview from the Geological Survey of Canada headquarters in Sidney, B.C., near Victoria. "When that happens, we believe what it's doing is loading additional stress onto the locked zone. So if that locked zone happens to be close to critical, it could theoretically trigger a mega earthquake." Bird and her colleagues noticed a phenomenon, called Episodic Tremor and Slip (ETS), occurs in the area about every 14 months -- each time adding stress to the fault line and increasing the likelihood of a major earthquake. The seismologists started detecting strong ETS movement last Friday. If a major quake should occur, said seismologist Gary Rogers: "You're looking at a big tsunami happening at the same time. The west coast of Vancouver Island, the Washington and Oregon coasts, are all vulnerable to a force powerful enough to certainly bring down buildings. Rogers told CTV.ca that the area of the Cascadia Subduction Zone is comparable in size to the rupture zone of the Dec. 26, 2004 earthquake in the Pacific Ocean that triggered a devastating tsunami in the Sumatra-Andaman Islands. Another comparable scenario, said Roberts, is the 1964 earthquake that struck Alaska. "Most of the bigger, taller buildings and structures like bridges suffered some damage, whereas most of the small structures such as houses suffered hardly any damage. So there's an analogy which is probably what is going to happen in Vancouver, Seattle and Victoria." While larger structures that were built a number of years ago are most vulnerable, continued Roberts, recently-built structures are better off, "because what we do is put this type of knowledge into building codes. Older, bigger structures are more vulnerable because they don't have the present day knowledge built into their design." The last known great earthquake in the Pacific Northwest -- the Cascadia Earthquake -- struck in January, 1700. While such phenomena are infrequent -- with a cycle of every few hundred years -- the region is due for a big one. The Geological Survey of Canada added for an average week, the chances of a mega thrust earthquake occurring is 0.0005 per cent (or 1/200,000); during a week of Episodic Tremor and Slip this increases to 0.026 per cent (or 1/4,000) -- a 50-fold increase. "We are at a time when (a megathrust quake) could occur, but it could also be 100 years from now," Bird told CTV.ca, adding that it's never too soon to get organized and take precautions. "What I encourage people to do is whenever we're about to have an ETS, it's a good time to use that as a trigger to go over your emergency plan with your family to make sure that your earthquake kit is full stocked," she said. "Sometimes things get taken from earthquake kits to use for other things. So replenish the food and water and other equipment. It's just a good practice, a good reminder, like when the clocks change you check the battery in your smoke detector. For the west coast, you check your earthquake kit every 14 months." Should B.C. escape the big one this time, the next window of higher earthquake risk will occur around April 2008. Rogers said seismologists haven't figured out why the ETS phenomenon happens every 14 months in the Pacific Northwest. "And interestingly enough it's 14 months fairly regularly here for the last decade as we looked back at our old records," he said. "But in Japan, it seems to be about one year; in New Zealand it appears to be about every few years; and Alaska every 18 months. We don't know if it's because of different subduction zones, or it's about where we are in the earthquake cycle."
