- you can either hire someone to cut the marble or you can use a regular circlar saw with a diamond cut or metal cut blade. if you go to your local hardware store they should be able to help you out
- When you do this, you will lose the polished edge on the marble. Just a warning. To cut the marble, use a circular saw with a diamond blade. You can get them at your local home center. Set the top face down on a set of saw horses, and clamp a straightedge to it (yes, you will have to remove the top). Start the saw back from the edge and slowly bring it into the top. It's not a bad idea to have a partner drip some water on the leading edge of the blade. After you make the cut, use a belt sander with a silicon carbide belt to take the sharp edge off the corner and somewhat smooth the side. If you are at all unsure about this, have it done professionally. It's very easy to screw it up. Hope this helps.
- You'll need a wet diamond blade for a circular saw. It will be cheaper to take it to a marble shop and have them cut it than for you to try this yourself. Cutting any kind of stone is better left to a professional.
- I know this will be messy but it really is the best way to go about it. Go to Home Depot and go to the tile section. They will have a 4" circular saw that comes with a blade for $50. A good dry blade for your full sized circular saw will cost this much so you're not losing money by buying another tool. This saw come with a case and a water connection hose. You hook up the water connection because without a water feed there is a great chance you'll chip the surface of the countertop. You can get a wet/dry vac., take out the filter and use it to suck up the water as you cut. Obviously, if you can remove the piece and cut it outside this will be easier and cleaner. If you dont want the tool anymore sell it on craigslist for $40 "used once" and you'll only be out $10.
