Can a game being played through Daemon Tools be saved?

I was playing the original Serious Sam: First Encounter with Daemon Tools and saved the game and quit, but when i returned to the game all my data was gone, is this just how it works or is there a way for me to save the game though i'm playing it through Daemon Tools?

1. Daemon Tools emulates a disk drive, so the game should save the data locally on your computer just like the normal game would--The exact location depends on the game. It sounds like either an issue with the game itself or how you saved/loaded.
